I am Mrs. Kanadi Dauda Gava a member of Church of the Brethren in Nigeria known as Ekklesiyar Yanuwa a Nigeria (EYN). I have worked as Deputy Director /Principal of Theological Education by Extension, Women Ministry Directorate and Curently a lecturer at Kulp Theological Seminary, Kwarhi. I had first degree in Theology in 2006, Master in Theology 2009 with specialization in Missions and PhD in 2021 with Dissertation on “The impacts of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) on Women and Children in Borno State of Nigeria Missiological Approach.”
Historical Background
Women’s Network Safe Space Ministry (WNSSM) was established in 2016 because of the experience of the President of the Ministry. She was one of those that fled (Islamic Insurgency) Boko Haram in October 2014 while she was working as Deputy Director of Theological Education by Extension (EYN TEE College) in Mubi. She spent several days in Cameroon with other refugees before getting a way to return to Nigeria.
Planned Activities include the following:
Creation of Safe Spaces in selected areas and Faith based locations to serve as information, Counselling and referrer centers
Identification and mapping of target groups for behavioral change campaign using selected areas in Adamawa and Borno States
Behavioral Change Campaigns and awareness creation across selected areas in the target communities (Women and girl child as main target)
Provision of Water, Hygiene and Sanitation
Provision of cash aid to most vulnerable GBV survivors as support for empowerment
Supervision/ Monitoring
Evaluation and closing
The WNSSM made the response against the problems created by insurgency and other vices in the following areas:
- Economic Empowerment: – Through provision of skills for income generation to survivors of GBV as well as startup grant or seed grant or equipment grant.
- Social Empowerment: – Through payment of books fee and transportation to women in literacy class and also assist orphans and girls with school fees.
- Psychosocial support: – Through providing workshops on importance of safe space for vulnerable women especially survivors of Gender-Based Violence as well as importance of creating safe space to community leaders and religious leaders.
- Health Promotion: – Assists in areas of nutrition life skills and general well-being.

Vision
Survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) live a dignified life and are economically and educationally empowered.
Our vision is that Survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) become self-sustaining and remain well recognized in their community, well respected and truly empowered. We will also seeks to continue our role as advocate of women’s rights, promoter of women capacities and driving force of social change.
