Implementing Organisation and Collaboration
This ministry came into being as a result of passion toward the plight of Gender Based Violence survivors’ caused by insurgency and other vices. As a woman I faced the challenge of running away from the (Islamic) Boko Haram insurgency. Many women and girl child were affected by being raped or held as captives by the Insurgents. The insurgency has traumatized many women and children. As I work with women and children, they shared their experiences on how they were attacked by the insurgents. Apart from being raped, made sex slaves, forced to marry their abductors, have a child or children with them, they have lost their dignity and pride as women in the society. For this reason, they are being stigmatized.
The WNSSM made the response against the problems created by insurgency and other vices in the following areas: –
- Economic Empowerment: – Through provision of skills for income generation to survivors of GBV as well as startup grant or seed grant or equipment grant.
- Social Empowerment: – Through payment of books fee and transportation to women in literacy class and also assist orphans and girls with school fees.
- Psychosocial support: – Through providing workshops on importance of safe space for vulnerable women especially survivors of Gender-Based Violence as well as importance of creating safe space to community leaders and religious leaders.
- Health Promotion: – Assists in areas of nutrition life skills and general well-being.
